My Story
I became an advocate after spending many years struggling to get both NYC and California schools to offer my twice-exceptional (2e) children an appropriate education. I was told that my older son performed too well academically to have an IEP or a paraprofessional. I was told that it was too early to diagnose my younger son with dyslexia, even though his dad is dyslexic and his delay in reading was unusual, given his strong academic performance in other areas.
After finally getting both my children IEPs, I was able to fget the LAUSD to reimburse me for private school tuition, while my younger son attends a special LAUSD program for 2e students. Experiencing success with my own children inspired me to help others both in and outside of California.
I am available to guide you through the 504/IEP process, teach you how to advocate for your child, and offer insight and advice gained from over 20 years as an educator, a teacher of teachers, and an advocate. Should you need the services of an education lawyer as well, I work with the Law Firm of Stanley R. Apps.
